<< Parenting Tips -- Teaching Adoption to OthersWho are your Real Parents? Why did your parents get rid of you? How much did you cost? That isn't your real family, is it? These are just a few of the questions your child may hear someday... It is not that the person asking is trying to be mean...it may just mean they don't understand the meaning of ADOPTION. As a parent of an adopted child, are you ready to help them with this? Common Adoption Terms Instead of Real Parents.... Parents who raise you vs. parents who gave birth to you. For our daughter, we are her third set of parents, so I like to refer to us as the Forever Parents. We refer to her other 'parent's' as Birth Parents and Foster Parents. Instead of being 'given up for adoption'...not all birth parents can take care of their baby and they must decide to make a better choice for the baby. Adoption.... just another way to form a family. Once adopted into a family the parents become the Real Parents...the siblings become the Real Brothers & Sisters. Costs...it costs to have a baby in a hospital and it costs to adopt. It is personal and does not need to be discussed further.
